An updated GWM Haval H6 GT PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) SUV has been spotted in Australia, showing interior and powertrain changes ahead of its expected arrival in local showrooms in the coming months.
A rival to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and BYD Sealion 6, the Haval H6 GT PHEV spied at a Melbourne shopping centre carpark wears ‘PHEV Hi4’ badges, signifying the fitment of the brand’s upgraded PHEV all-wheel-drive system already offered locally on the regular Haval H6 PHEV.
It also shows an updated interior, including a larger centre screen, simplified centre console and a new steering wheel — the same changes revealed in an updated version unveiled for Brazil earlier this week.

When Olvera’s Car Care asked about the updated H6 GT PHEV for Australia, a company spokesperson said: “There is no information to share at this stage on the confirmation or timing of this update for ANZ [Australia and New Zealand].”
However, it’s expected to launch here during the second quarter (April to June) of 2026.
While GWM Australia hasn’t officially confirmed any changes for the local market, the updated version of the Haval H6 GT PHEV unveiled in Brazil appears to bring the same changes as the vehicle spotted here.
The exterior may be unchanged, but inside there are significant upgrades.
Cabin improvements for the Brazilian version include a 14.6-inch centre touchscreen — up from the current Australian model’s 12.3-inch unit — running new, faster Coffee OS 3 software.
Along with improved responsiveness and features such as artificial intelligence (AI)-based voice command, it’s expected to add the GWM Connected Services smartphone app, first seen in Australia on the Tank 500 in 2024.
The app enables remote control of the door locks, horn, lights, climate control, and heated and ventilated seats.
The Brazilian unveiling also shows the same new steering wheel as the vehicle spied locally, with a carryover 10.25-inch instrument cluster but a simpler, less cluttered centre console – although it retains its row of physical buttons between the centre stowage area and the touchscreen.
Also new is the addition of the Hi4 all-wheel-drive hybrid powertrain already offered on the Haval H6 PHEV, where it produces total system outputs of 268kW and 760Nm, with official combined fuel consumption of 1.1L/100km.
Like the outgoing Haval H6 GT PHEV and the current Haval H6 PHEV, the updated coupe SUV uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and a dedicated hybrid transmission combined with two electric motors — one on each axle — to deliver all-wheel drive.
Unlike the Haval H6 PHEV sold here, however, there’s a larger 35kWh battery, up from 19.09kWh and matching the outgoing Australian-market Haval H6 GT PHEV.
The brand has also been promoting its ‘Hi4’ and ‘Hi4T’ all-wheel-drive systems locally, already fitted to the Tank 500 PHEV and the Cannon Alpha ute, as it looks to counter tightening emissions regulations in Australia.
While it doesn’t wear Hi4 badging there, the Brazilian-market H6 GT PHEV is claimed to produce 380kW and 772Nm, although it also quotes 393CV on the same site, which equates to 289kW. Claimed electric range on the WLTP cycle is 170km.
For context, the outgoing Australian-market Haval H6 GT PHEV has total outputs of 321kW and 762Nm, with 180km of electric-only range on the more lenient NEDC cycle. The Haval H6 PHEV, with its smaller battery, offers 100km of NEDC range in all-wheel drive guise.
The updated Haval H6 GT also carries a claimed 0–100km/h time of 4.8 seconds, matching the acceleration claim of the current Haval H6 PHEV sold in Australian showrooms.
The Haval H6 lineup, including the H6 and the H6 GT — which brings a swoopier roof for a more distinctive look — was the second-best-selling model range in the GWM Australia lineup last year, behind only the Haval Jolion SUV.
The brand posted record sales in Australia in 2025 to finish seventh overall, with sales up 23.4 per cent year-on-year.
